About
My name is Rick Dakan. I’m a writer and game designer, with a deep and abiding fascination with history. These days, I’m particularly enthralled by the French Revolution and the reign of Napoleon. This site, Paris in Revolution and Empire, is a travelogue of my journey to Paris in the summer of 2015. Starting with the massive reenactment on the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo in June, I’m going to travel back in time by visiting the places and events in and around Paris that still reverberate from the impact of events in 1789. Each chapter will include copious pictures and a deeply researched essay about some facet of the Revolution or First Empire. Join me for the adventure, as I explore the events, people, art, food, places, and legacy of the important and eventful years from 1815 to 1789.
